Dear Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to invite you on behalf of the Canadian Association for Physical Anthropology to attend our 47th Annual Meeting to be held from October 23-26, 2019.
The meeting will be held at the same venue that we used in 2007, the inspiring Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, perched on a mountainside above the town of Banff. Situated in Banff National Park, the town of Banff is a beautiful destination located 1.5 hours west of the Calgary Airport. The town has a terrific selection of coffee shops, boutiques, nice restaurants and lively bars. Better yet, take a short stroll away from the town and you're in wild country where you're likely to meet elk, deer, or bighorn sheep. Book a room at the Banff Centre and enjoy your breakfasts and lunches in the gorgeous Vistas Dining Room and workouts in their fitness centre.
I’ll add that the world famous Banff Mountain Film Festival kicks off on October 26th at the Banff Centre. The films range from people doing things almost as crazy as fieldwork in the middle of nowhere to beautiful ethnographic pieces. You may wish to stick around for a day or so to check out the films.
The opening reception will take place on Wednesday October 23rd and sessions will run October 24th, 25th, and 26th, with the banquet at the Banff Centre on the evening of October 25th. Our organizing committee consists of Annie Katzenberg (academic program), Steig Johnson (vetting symposia applications), Mary Pavelka (vetting abstracts), Ian Colquhoun (business meeting), Kris Russell Markin (myriad odds and ends), Tracy Wyman (website), and myself (general direction).
I hope you will join us in making our 47th Annual Meeting a memorable event and look forward to welcoming you to Banff.
