My name is Jo Motley (they/them), and I recently finished my PhD at Western University in bioarchaeology with a focus on mummy studies and taphonomy. I have volunteered with the EDI committee since 2020 and I am excited to continue to assist with organizing EDI initiatives, such as increasing accessibility, student mentorship, advocating for historically underserved scholars, and creating opportunities to continue building a diverse biological anthropology community through CABA-ACAB. My interests in biological anthropology and taphonomy grew from learning how anthropologists can reconstruct past events and lifeways from organic remains. I am fascinated by biocultural research and how the social and natural sciences can answer questions about ourselves. I look forward to working with my co-chair, Iulia Badescu, to continue supporting the organization’s membership and those interested in learning more about our field.
